Maybe you know him as one of the greater physicist of our times, winner of the Nobel Price. But maybe you don’t know he was very keen in science and technology when he was child and he shared this interest with his elder brother Giulio. They were very close. When Giulio died unexpectedly of a minor operation, Enrico got devastated. He used to walk every day in front of the hospital where his brother died trying to find an end to his bereavement. He took refuge in his own studies. Sometimes he was so concentrated in the books he read that once he confessed to his sister that hadn’t realized the book he was reading was written in Latin. This sad story gave birth to one of the most important scientists of our times. Enrico Fermi knew it and he was not precisely a humble person. He used to say: ‘Einstein was a 100 but I’m 99’.
